Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, M10-1.5, 16mm Length (Pack of 10) Review

Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, M10-1.5, 16mm Length (Pack of 10) Feature

  • Set Screws keep parts from turning relative to a shaft
  • Alloy Steel is one of the strongest materials used in fasteners, making this an ideal material to use when the primary concern is the application pulling apart
  • Do not have an external head
  • Drive system is a hexagon-shaped hole
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, M10-1.5, 16mm Length (Pack of 10) Overview

Set Screws are often used for holding a pulley, gear, or other parts from turning relative to a shaft.

Alloy Steel is steel that has been alloyed with other materials to improve overall physical properties. Steels are designated by a 4 number SAE Steel grade. The first two digits indicate the primary materials used to form the steel. The last 2 digits identify the percentage of carbon for the alloy (in hundredths). Tensile strength ranges for the alloys typically used in these fasteners range from 170,000 to 180,000 psi (pounds per square inch), making these amongst the strongest of materials.

Hex socket drive systems are driven by hex wrenches or power tools with hexagonal bits. Cup Point is the most common point type, with good holding capability.

A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter (in millimeters), followed by the thread pitch (millimeters per thread), which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Coarse threads are better when working with brittle materials; they are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

Kreg 1-1/4", #6 Fine, Pan-Head, Pocket Hole Screws (100 Pack) - SPS-F125-100 Overview

This 1-1/4" fine thread, #2 square drive pan head screw works well in 3/4" thick, hardwood material such as oak, maple, hickory, cherry and walnut. The deep recess, pan head of this screw provides excellent driver engagement and is popular in framing applications involving hardwoods. The screw features a type 17 auger tip that self-taps its' own hole, eliminating the need to predrill in even the hardest materials. Kreg screws also have larger diameter steel shanks than many other screws on the market today making for an impressively strong screw that is almost impossible to break. Our screws have a bronze colored finish and a dry-lubricant coating that eases driving torque and provides greater rust resistance.

Brass Wood Screws FP 10 x 1-1/2

Brass Wood Screws FP 10 x 1-1/2 Review

Brass Wood Screws FP 10 x 1-1/2 Overview

Brass Wood Screws with flat head phillips drive have cut threads and the full-bodied diameter shank desired by boatbuilders. Unlike rolled thread screws with their reduced shank, these screws have a shank diameter that is the same size as the outside of the threads. This completely fills the clearance hole normally drilled for the shank thus creating a waterproof seal.

Stainless Steel Socket Cap Screw, Hex Socket Drive, M8-1.25, 40mm Length (Pack of 25) Feature

  • Socket Cap Screws are durable and reliable
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Socket cap head fasteners are very common in industrial applications

Stainless Steel Socket Cap Screw, Hex Socket Drive, M8-1.25, 40mm Length (Pack of 25) Overview

Socket Cap Screws, also known as Allen head screws, are reliable and durable and are used in many applications. They are available in a variety of head styles and materials.

Stainless steels are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness.  These properties account for their extremely wide use in practically every industry. Austenitic Stainless Steels are alloys of iron and carbon that contain between 16% and 30% Chromium, a maximum of 0.15% carbon, along with Nickel (or Manganese), and other alloying elements.  The chromium, which helps develop a passive surface oxide film, provides corrosion resistance in stainless steels.   Austenitic Stainless Steels are designated by a 3 digit SAE Stainless Steel Grade beginning with the number 3 (e.g. 304, 316).  Another common naming convention for Austenitic Stainless Steels are 18/8, 18/10, 18/0, etc. where the 18 refers to the % of Chromium and 8 to the % of Nickel contained in the material.

With a high cylindrical head, socket cap head fasteners have a recessed driving area and offer high hold power at high torque levels. Hex socket drive systems are driven by hex wrenches or power tools with hexagonal bits.

A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter (in millimeters), followed by the thread pitch (millimeters per thread), which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Flat Head, Phillips Drive, #1-64, 1/4" Length (Pack of 100)

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Flat Head, Phillips Drive, #1-64, 1/4" Length (Pack of 100) Review

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Flat Head, Phillips Drive, #1-64, 1/4" Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Machine Screws are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Flat head style allows fastener to sit flush to the surface
  • Phillips drive is designed to cam out under too much torque
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Flat Head, Phillips Drive, #1-64, 1/4" Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Machine Screws, also referred to as Machine Bolts, are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. They come in a variety of head types and drive styles, but are generally available in smaller sizes.

Flat head fasteners are designed to fit flush to the surface when used with countersunk holes. Length is measured from the top of the head. The Phillips drive style was originally designed so that the driver would slip out under extreme torque, preventing over-tightening and damage to the fastener or the material.

A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter, followed by the threads per inch, which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Coarse threads are better when working with brittle materials; they are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

Acetal Machine Screw, Pan Head, Slotted Drive, 1/4"-20, 7/8" Length (Pack of 100) Review

Acetal Machine Screw, Pan Head, Slotted Drive, 1/4"-20, 7/8" Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Machine Screws are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes
  • Acetal is suitable where hardness and water resistance are important considerations
  • Pan head allows for higher tightening torques
  • Driven by a flat-bladed driver
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Acetal Machine Screw, Pan Head, Slotted Drive, 1/4"-20, 7/8" Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Machine Screws, also referred to as Machine Bolts, are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. They come in a variety of head types and drive styles, but are generally available in smaller sizes.

Acetal resins are characterized by their strength, stiffness, and hardness, and are stable over a wide range of temperatures, humidity, environments, and stress. Acetal has a low coefficient of friction, and absorbs little water, minimizing the effect of moisture on its physical properties. Acetal resists neutral oils, grease, petroleum-based fuels, many organic solvents, alkalis, oxidizing agents and acids, both organic and inorganic. Compared to Nylon 6/6, Acetal is harder and has better water resistance, but lower impact strength and abrasion resistance. Acetal is translucent off white in color.

Pan head fasteners have a low, large cylindrical head with a high rounded top edge for higher tightening torques - these fasteners are often recommended to replace older head styles such as round, binding, or truss-head where possible. Common applications for slotted screws include woodworking, although the drive style is not designed to be used with power drivers.

Brass Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, #10-32, 1/4" Length (Pack of 10) Overview

Set Screws are often used for holding a pulley, gear, or other parts from turning relative to a shaft.

Brass is rust proof, corrosion resistant and polishes to a rich, golden color. Brass is easily soldered and brazed and accepts plating readily. The typical composition is 70% Copper and 30% Zinc. Strength increases with a higher percentage of Zinc.

Hex socket drive systems are driven by hex wrenches or power tools with hexagonal bits. Cup Point is the most common point type, with good holding capability.

A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter, followed by the threads per inch, which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Fine threads are preferable when working with harder materials or when threading into a thin material. They are also stronger in tension than coarse threads, and generally provide higher shear strengths.

Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, M6-1, 35mm Length (Pack of 10) Feature

Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Cup Point, M6-1, 35mm Length (Pack of 10) Overview

Polycarbonate Machine Screw, Binding Head, Slotted Drive, #10-24, 5/8" Length (Pack of 25) Review

Polycarbonate Machine Screw, Binding Head, Slotted Drive, #10-24, 5/8" Length (Pack of 25) Feature

  • Machine Screws are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes
  • Polycarbonate is suitable where high impact strength and hardness are primary considerations
  • Binding head provides a large surface area for extra surface contact under the head
  • Driven by a flat-bladed driver
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Polycarbonate Machine Screw, Binding Head, Slotted Drive, #10-24, 5/8" Length (Pack of 25) Overview

Machine Screws, also referred to as Machine Bolts, are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. They come in a variety of head types and drive styles, but are generally available in smaller sizes.

Polycarbonate is one of the toughest, most dimensionally stable thermoplastics over a wide temperature range. Impact Strength, as measured by the Izod impact test method (which measures force required to break material), is 17 pounds per foot. This is significantly tougher than standard Nylon 6/6, which is rated at 3 pounds per foot. Polycarbonate is a relatively non-hydroscopic material; it will only absorb extremely low amounts of water even after extended exposure. Polycarbonate is very resistant to greases, oils, detergents, aliphatic hydrocarbons, most mineral acids, and the higher alcohols. It is does not perform well with chlorinated hydrocarbons, and most aromatic solvents, esters, and ketones. Polycarbonate has a blue tinted transparency with 89% light transmission. Tensile strength is approximately 10,000 psi (pounds per square inch).

Generally used in electrical or radio work, these fasteners are slightly undercut under the head. That provides the ability to bind stranded wire tightly and prevent fraying. Common applications for slotted screws include woodworking, although the drive style is not designed to be used with power drivers.

Stainless Steel Socket Cap Screw, Hex Socket Drive, M5-0.8, 25mm Length (Pack of 100) Review

Stainless Steel Socket Cap Screw, Hex Socket Drive, M5-0.8, 25mm Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Socket Cap Screws are durable and reliable
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Socket cap head fasteners are very common in industrial applications
  • Drive system is a hexagon-shaped hole
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Stainless Steel Socket Cap Screw, Hex Socket Drive, M5-0.8, 25mm Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Coarse threads are better when working with brittle materials; they are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

Nylon Thumb Screw, Knurled Head, Slotted Drive, #6-32, 5/16" Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Thumb Screws allow for simple "by-hand" installation
  • Nylon 6/6 is suitable where non-conductivity, corrosion resistance, and cost are important considerations
  • Knurled head provides extra grip for manual tightening
  • Driven by a flat-bladed driver
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Nylon Thumb Screw, Knurled Head, Slotted Drive, #6-32, 5/16" Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Thumb screws are designed to be tightened and loosened by hand. They come in a variety of head styles, but each includes an easy-grip head which allows for simple "by-hand" installation.

Nylon 6/6 is a general purpose thermoplastic with outstanding resistance to organic chemicals, acids and alkalis. Nylon wears well against other surfaces; it is readily machinable and may be milled, turned and cut with conventional machine tools. It does exhibit some dimensional swelling in wet applications which should be taken into account with its use. Tensile strength of this material is 12,000 psi (pounds per square inch).

Usually found on thumb screws, a knurled surface on the head gives a better gripping surface, making it easier to tighten or loosen fasteners manually. Common applications for slotted screws include woodworking, although the drive style is not designed to be used with power drivers.

A threaded fastener's size name includes information about the major external diameter, followed by the threads per inch, which indicates if it is coarse or fine. Coarse threads are better when working with brittle materials; they are sturdier and are easier to thread and unthread compared to fine. #10-24 Bronze Machine Screws RH 10-24 x 2-1/2 Overview

#10-24 silicon bronze machine screws with round head and slotted or straight slot drive. The Round Head has a semi-elliptical top surface with a flat bearing surface underneath. The flat bearing surface allows for lateral movement (as opposed to a Flat or Oval Head that have a countersunk bearing surface that will self-center in the mounting holes) when attaching hardware. Generally chosen for it's traditional appearance. Many boatbuilders especially ones with traditional old school tendencies prefer a silicon bronze machine screw. Silicon bronze offers great corrosion resistance and along with the slot drive provides the classic look of traditional boatbuilding.

8 x 2-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 2500 pc Feature

  • Twice the torque of other screws
  • Black oxide plating
  • Superior heat treat process
  • Super sharp point
  • Square Drive

8 x 2-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 2500 pc Overview

Extra Torque (XT) means just that! Commonly available screws will actually break around 25-30 inch/lbs. While that may be fine for drywall or other light duty applications, woodworking demands something better. HIGHPOINT extra torque woodworking screws are engineered for tough applications and offer almost twice the torque values of other screws! Special attention is given to design as well as the heat treating process to produce one tough screw! With a super sharp point and deep, biting threads, these screws will cut their way into just about any common hardwood you will use. There are many advantages of a Square Drive design. Bits are less likely to jump out of the recess and allow you to use more driving torque. Square Drive offers a positive stick-fit which tends to stay on screwdriver bit tip, which is handy starting screws overhead or from other difficult angles. The positive fit means your bits will last longer and you are less likely to damage the screw. If you have driven screws that fall off the bit then you understand what we mean! These screws are unplated and are coated with a specially formulated dry lubricant which reduces driving torque and offers a minimal amount of corrosion resistance. Color may vary due to variations in the heat treating process and may exhibit shades of grey, brown or black. Dry lube finish fasteners are recommended for interior applications only. Not recommended for use in ACQ treated lumber. HIGHPOINT XT woodworking screws size #6 have a #1 Square Drive recess and #8 have a #2 Square Drive recess.

Flat head fasteners are designed to fit flush to the surface when used with countersunk holes. Length is measured from the top of the head.

Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Pan Head, Phillips Drive, #12-24, 3/4" Length (Pack of 100)

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Pan Head, Phillips Drive, #12-24, 3/4" Length (Pack of 100) Review

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Pan Head, Phillips Drive, #12-24, 3/4" Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Machine Screws are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Pan head allows for higher tightening torques
  • Phillips drive is designed to cam out under too much torque
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Pan Head, Phillips Drive, #12-24, 3/4" Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Machine Screws, also referred to as Machine Bolts, are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. They come in a variety of head types and drive styles, but are generally available in smaller sizes.

Pan head fasteners have a low, large cylindrical head with a high rounded top edge for higher tightening torques - these fasteners are often recommended to replace older head styles such as round, binding, or truss-head where possible.

8 x 1-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 100 pc

8 x 1-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 100 pc Review

8 x 1-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 100 pc Feature

  • Twice the Torque of Other Screws
  • Black Oxide Plating
  • Superior Heat Treat Process
  • Super Sharp Point
  • Square Drive

8 x 1-1/2 HighPoint XT Square Drive Woodworking Screws, Flat Head, Black Oxide, 100 pc Overview

Black Oxide plating is primarily a decorative finish and provides a moderate amount of corrosion resistance but is recommended for interior applications. Not recommended for use in ACQ treated lumber. HIGHPOINT XT Woodworking Screws size #6 have a #1 Square drive recess and #8 have a #2 Square drive recess.

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Fillister Head, Slotted Drive, #5-40, 3/8" Length (Pack of 100) Review

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Fillister Head, Slotted Drive, #5-40, 3/8" Length (Pack of 100) Feature

  • Machine Screws are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Fillister head for high torque and good hold-down strength
  • Driven by a flat-bladed driver
  • Coarse threads are better for brittle materials, and will assemble and disassemble more quickly than fine threads

Stainless Steel Machine Screw, Fillister Head, Slotted Drive, #5-40, 3/8" Length (Pack of 100) Overview

Machine Screws, also referred to as Machine Bolts, are often used with nuts or driven into tapped holes. They come in a variety of head types and drive styles, but are generally available in smaller sizes.

Fillister head fasteners are considered an improvement over round head equivalents - the smaller head creates more downward pressure for a given torque level and the thicker head plus deeper drive slot allows higher torque levels to be generated.

Coarse threading also allows for thicker coatings and platings.

Coby DVD298 1080p Upconversion DVD Player with HDMI and DivX Playback, Black

Coby DVD298 1080p Upconversion DVD Player with HDMI and DivX Playback, Black Review

I bought the Coby DVD298 DVD Player less for its 1080p upconversion of standard DVDs to 1080p than for its ability to be easily hacked to an all-region DVD player. But for those who don't have the need for that and just need a player that will make their standard DVDs look hi-def on their HDTVs, fear not - while it's not the best 1080p upconverting DVD player I've seen (that would be the Toshiba SD900, which is stunning!), it's still an extremely good one that's inexpensive and easy to use.

For those who DO want to watch DVDs from around the world, though, the DVD298 shines. It plays NTSC and PAL DVDs right out the gate - but as anyone who's bought a foreign DVD and tried to play it on a US player knows, there's a little thing the movie industry stuck on all DVDs called "region encoding" that is supposed to make that impossible. However, some DVD manufacturers (like Coby) make players that are global at the factory, then write the region encoding into software because it costs less than to build region-limiting into the hardware. These can be hacked to become region-free, and how to do this for these players, including the DVD298, can be found with a simple Google search. Once you've done it, you can take DVDs from anywhere in the world and watch them - from BBC spy adventures to obscure Japanese horror movies and Italian thrillers to Indonesian martial arts movies, all unavailable in the US.

The DVD298 also has the ability to plug in a USB drive or SD card and look at either images, listen to MP3s, or watch downloaded videos files from online. I haven't had much luck watching MP4 video podcasts this way, though I have both listened to music and viewed photos - and a friend of mine with the same model was very impressed at its ability to show "Internet videos".

Its biggest flaw, as others have pointed out, is that it's kind of flimsily-built, as you might expect from a bargain DVD player. But put it on its own shelf rather than stacking DVD players and monitors below and above it, and it shouldn't give you any problems.

If you want the ability to watch videos from around the world and also have regular videos look "hi-def" on your HDTV, I can recommend Coby's DVD298 highly.
